Stop, look at the big picture, tackle the big problem, directly. Imagine what OUR country would be like without national debt. That is the goal. If it takes 20 years to get there, that’s fine. As Jerry says - Do it for the kids. I will take less government services and pay more tax IF it solves the problem. BUT it will not solve the problem so long as the perpetual profligate self interest persists in OUR government at all levels.

I am now getting off this horse. I have a garden to tend, and rivers to run and people to love.  But, we know in our hearts what I say is true.  The people we elected will either deal with the real problems we face or they won’t. If they do not it is only another sign of their cowardice.
