Trying to keep all this in mind and fix lunch at the same time is a challenge for me. The change in emphasis for HTML5 away from just content and more toward functionality, coupled with a much deeper impact from Apple on the broader model of computing than even Apple’s most adamant fans could have anticipated, has led to a changed scenario for the Web. By this time next year, barring any...

National Debt
Stop, look at the big picture, tackle the big problem, directly. Imagine what OUR country would be like without national debt. That is the goal. If it takes 20 years to get there, that’s fine. As Jerry says - Do it for the kids. I will take less government services and pay more tax IF it solves the problem. BUT it will not solve the problem so long as the perpetual profligate self interest...

The Lightness of Being
It is hard to do good religious humor but Anne Herbert hit it pretty close with this one no matter what your affiliation. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit walk into a bar. The Father said, “X” in a grown-god kind of way. The Son said, “Y,” like someone who has been there. The Holy Spirit said nothing. But the air beneath the air moved like a breath, like a tap of...

Please read this. I don’t know what to say. This is not law it is murder. It is not human. A gorilla, a slug or a worm would not do or condone this. From the small place on which I stand I call them cowards and it is proof of their cowardice that they do not confront me. Please share.

Chuck Palahniuk on Portland
“Bring your own job. Portland is quickly becoming one of those lovely, lush Third World countries where kinda-rich people retire with their money. Here, they can live like kings, generating only service-industry jobs and jacking up housing prices. Portland needs to be getting some decent industry and jobs.”

madadmen: “There’s an old joke - um… two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of ‘em says, “Boy, the food at this place is really terrible.” The other one says, “Yeah, I know; and such small portions.” Well, that’s essentially how I feel about life - full of loneliness, and misery, and suffering, and unhappiness, and...
